Barbell Essentials Course

Barbell Essentials Course will help you become more confident and comfortable when it comes to performing the Olympic Lifts.


This program is designed to improve the fundamentals of Olympic Weightlifting. The course will start October 10 and continue to Saturday November 7. All classes will begin at 8:30 am and run approximately to 9:30am. At the conclusion of this course all registered participants will be allowed to show case their refined skills at a non-sanctioned Olympic Weightlifting meet held by CrossFit Mayday. Crossfitters and Weightlifters from Chattanooga will be invited to come and show off their skills as well.


The Olympic Weightlifting movements that we will be going over are the Clean, the Jerk, and the Snatch.


Cost of the class is $20.00 per CF Mayday Member, $40.00 for Non-CF Mayday Members.

Below is the layout for how the course will be taught.



  • Week 1: 10.10.15 – Body alignment, foot work, and set up.
  • Week 2: 10/17/15 – Barbell Only: Teach the power position. Light Weight: Mimic week 1 drills, top down approach.
  • Week 3: 10/24/15 – Cleans (Ground up approach)
  • Week 4: 10/31/15 – Jerk and Over Head Squat movements.
  • Week 5: 11/07/15 – Put it all together.
  • Week 6: 11/14/15 –Non-Sanctioned Olympic Weightlifting Meet
